Friday, July 3, 2026, 10:00 AM - 10:25 AM | Hugh Owen A14 | Lecture | Farm & Livestock, Governance & Policy, Cattle

This session is Part 1 of 2.

This session aims to discuss how to engage more productively with farmers in assessing suckler herd performance – is it just ‘a calf per cow per year’? - and the main areas to focus on to achieve improvement including (briefly) female fertility, replacement policy, male fertility, infectious diseases and nutrition. The main aim is to be able to demonstrate the value of veterinary involvement in suckler herd health planning.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding suckler herd performance analysis, KPIs and PHMs better and where differences may be able to be made.
  • Understanding critical influences on suckler herd performance.
  • Deciding how to prioritise interventions.
