Teamwork makes the dream work: A team-based approach to consultations

Thursday, July 2, 2026, 10:00 AM - 10:50 AM | Penbryn Medrus 4 | Lecture | Leadership & Teams, Nursing

What if consultations didn’t just rely on the vet? This session challenges traditional consult models and explores how RVNs can play a more central role in appointments. From booster vaccinations and wound care to lump checks and chronic illness management, many responsibilities could sit within the nurse remit but aren’t often undertaken. We’ll discuss how to embed a team-based approach into consultations, improve communication between vets and nurses, and build confidence in shared case management. The result? More thorough workups, improved client experience, better time management, and a more sustainable workload for the whole team. By unlocking the potential of RVNs within existing legislation, consults can become more collaborative, efficient, and rewarding for everyone involved.

Key Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, delegates will be able to:

  • Champion a team-based approach to consultations that maximises the skills of the whole veterinary team.
  • Use clear, confident communication strategies to strengthen collaboration and client experience.
  • Step into consultations with greater confidence as a united, supportive team.
