What the AHIC is this about?!

Friday, July 3, 2026, 9:00 AM - 9:50 AM | Hugh Owen A14 | Lecture | Farm & Livestock, Governance & Policy

This short presentation will introduce the Animal Health Improvement Cycle (AHIC) and the Biosecurity Assessment of Incoming Stock (BAIS) and consider how they fit into the Welsh Government Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS). It will consider the opportunities that the AHIC provides for farm vets who have an interest in working with their farm clients to improve livestock health and welfare, whilst also increasing farm productivity and efficiency.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Appreciate the basic requirements and structure of the SFS framework.
  2. Understand delivery of Universal Action 12 (UA12), in particularly the AHIC and the BAIS.
  3. Identify potential bespoke Production Health Metrics (PHMs) for farm clients.
  4. Identify opportunities for proactive working with farm clients.
